These durable kitchen worktops are not only beneficial for the environment but are also stain-resistant and shockproof. As with every material there are some negative aspects of having an environmentally-friendly kitchen worktop. In this case it is the fact that ArteEco worktops are only available in the colours contained in the recycled materials. These are usually relatively dark or light earth tones. Moreover, ArteEco worktops are never completely even in colour due to the fact that the recycled materials are visible within the surface.

General

The terms „durability” and „corporate social responsibility” are popping up more and more frequently. Acting responsibly towards the environment seems more important than ever. We care deeply about the environment, the people and the society around us. In kitchenworld too the demand for sustainable, environmentally-friendly work surfaces is picking up. Recycling is an important step towards a better world. Hence our choice to provide environmentally-friendly work surfaces.

General

ArteEco worktops contain 50% of recycled materials from post-consumer and post-industrial processes, e.g. mirrors, glass panes, bottles, porcelain, wash-basins, toilet bowls, paper, cardboard, tins, plastic, metals and glass. The post-industrial material encompasses rejected end products. The waste that people and companies throw away and that would end up at the tip otherwise. Thanks to ArteEco worktops these materials are given a new lease of life.  The other 50% are made up of wear-resistant composite stone. The slabs of material are then „compacted” by means of a natural binding agent containing vegetable oils.

Composite kitchen worktops (3)

A kitchen worktop made from a composite material can easily be cleaned with a lukewarm solution of water and ArteCream.  Afterwards, rinse the surface with water and remove this with a synthetic wiper. Finish by drying the surface with a cloth. Some composite colours require extra maintenance, such as the darker hues in a matt finish (suede). These colours tend to show up grease stains such as fingerprints a lot more than others. The best thing to do, is to spray some window cleaner onto a piece of kitchen towel and use this to rub the stained area. Limescale on the work surface or around the taps can easily be removed with some natural vinegar.

Composite kitchen worktops

Composite stone is an industrially manufactured product with many natural elements that give the kitchen worktop a beautiful and authentic look, all the while guaranteeing its solidity. These raw materials are pressed together and processed in a factory. The vacuum vibration process applied to the components of the composite material during pressing ensures that the slabs become non-porous. This means that juices, acids, stains and scratches don't stand a chance of damaging worktops made from composite materials. And all this benefits the lifespan of the composite worktop. And that lifespan is extremely long! In theory, the lifespan is unlimited. That is, if the end user adheres to the maintenance guidelines.

Composite kitchen worktops

To keep a composite stone worktop as strong and beautiful looking as possible Arte recommends you don't sit, kneel or stand on the work surface. It may sound logical but it happens more often than you think. After all, it is tempting to put your foot down on the worktop while you're cleaning the cooker hood or trying to wipe the window behind the work surface. Composite stone is resistant to many types of products but substances that are highly alkaline, e.g. sink and plughole unblockers, can easily damage the work surface. The repeated opening of a dishwasher before the end of its drying cycle may also cause irreparable damage to your worktop and edging.  Such so-called „thermal shocks” can easily be prevented by using a proper insulation material. Something else that may impact on the worktop is the fact that many consumers opt for larger built-in hobs or range cookers in combination with a thinner work surface. This means that large cut-outs have to be made in the work surface. A solid support for the worktop during installation is therefore of the utmost importance. The same applies when a wide cupboard is planned to go underneath the work surface.  As a rule, Arte offers installation supports for any cupboard sizes exceeding 600 mm width. Ask your kitchen supplier whether these aspects were taken into account.

Dekton kitchen worktops (2)

In order to produce Dekton surfaces the manufacturer uses Particle Sintering Technology (PST). The raw materials are mixed and ground down to a specific particle size, after which pigment is added. This mixture is then dried and spread evenly over a conveyor belt. The raw materials are subsequently pressed together to remove all air. The result of this process is the amalgamation of little coloured grains. In the final stage, the grains are baked in an oven at 1,200 degrees Celsius during which they are transformed into glass, becoming liquid and subsequently taking on a solid state again. A 2 cm thick slab will remain in the oven for 3 hours.  The manufacturing process is comparable to that of natural stone, a process that takes Mother Nature thousands of years.

Even under a microscope the material shows no porosity. Dekton is so hard that Arte has purchased and dedicated a separate waterjet system to cutting this material.

Dekton has the following properties:

  • Extremely stainproof

  • Highly resistant to scratches, impact and general wear and tear

  • Dimensionally stable and extremely pressure-resistant

  • Excellent resistance to heat and thermal shocks, frost and thaw

  • UV-resistant and colour-fast

Because a Dekton worktop is UV-resistant and can withstand all types of weather it is also extremely suitable for use in outdoor cooking areas!

Glass kitchen worktops (5)

An ArteGlass worktop is first cut to measure, then polished. After that, the correct cut-outs are applied. The unhardened glass subsequently undergoes a thermal treatment to increase its breaking strength. This requires the glass to be heated to a temperature of about 650 degrees Celsius before being cooled by blasting cold air on it. When a glass slab cools quickly, the surface shrinks, which created lasting compressive stress. A thin layer of veneer and a protective film are applied to the bottom of the glass plate, so that it can easily be installed without any fear for damage.

Glass kitchen worktops

A glass kitchen worktop is a very wise choice. It is a work surface with many advantages, as it is:

  • Solid

  • Maintenance-friendly

  • Heat-resistant

  • Impermeable

  • Moistureproof

  • Stainproof

  • Acid-resistant

Glass kitchen worktops

A frequently asked question regarding glass worktops is whether this type of worktop is solid enough. The answer to this question is YES! A glass worktop made from toughened glass contains additional elements that make it indestructible. And that's for the best, as you don't want fragile glass in a kitchen. We are 100% sure about stating that glass kitchen worktops are extremely solid and very durable. All-in-all, a good choice.

Glass kitchen worktops

A glass kitchen worktop has the following disadvantages:

  • Once a glass worktop is chipped, it can no longer be repaired

  • Scratches can be visible on a shiny kitchen work surface

Glass kitchen worktops

A glass kitchen worktop is extremely hygienic and easy to maintain thanks to its impermeable surface. By wiping the surface with a damp cloth, you will remove most stains. For the removal of stubborn stains in etched or scratched glass surfaces we recommend the use of ArteCream.

Granite kitchen worktops (3)

Having a granite kitchen worktop is like inviting nature into your home. No two granite surfaces are the same. Their vivid structures, colour patterns, indentations and specks make each kitchen worktop unique. The hard, strong minerals within the material provide the worktop with a scratch-resistance that makes cooking a pleasure and that allows trouble-free contact with fruit acids, lemonades or citric acids.  A granite kitchen worktop is scratch-resistant, acidproof and comes with a 10 year warranty.

Granite kitchen worktops

To ensure the long-lasting quality of our granite worktops we impregnate the granite slabs with a specially developed sealant for ArteGraniet with an antique, leather or polished surface. You will also find this sealant as part of our maintenance package. Most granite kitchen worktops are supposed to be treated twice to three times a year.

Granite kitchen worktops

Granite is not just one type of stone. It is a collective term for different types of stone: sedimentary rock, igneous rock and metamorphic rock. All of which are plutons. The granite kitchen worktops as supplied by Arte are igneous rock, crystallized from magma slowly cooling underneath the earth's surface. The magma forms minerals, each with their own specific shapes, properties and colours. That is why you can find a wide variety of kitchen worktops with unique indentations, specks or colour patterns. Each with its own style and colour scheme. Moreover, all granite kitchen surfaces supplied by Arte are environmentally-friendly.

Ceramics kitchen worktops (4)

The word „ceramics” originates from the Greek work „keramos”, meaning drinking vessel or earthenware vessel. In the main these were made from baked clay.  Nowadays, ceramics has a far wider meaning. When we think of ceramics, we don't just think about earthenware pots but also about china, tiles or even about the wash-basins and toilet bowls in our own homes. But did you know that ceramics is an ideal material for a work surface? A number of years ago ceramics were introduced as material for kitchen worktops and the product has, ever since, proved a vast success. One explanation for this are the numerous advantages offered by a ceramic work surface.

Ceramics kitchen worktops

A ceramic worktop has a number of highly advantageous properties, in that it is

  • Extremely hard

  • Heat-resistant

  • Hardwearing

  • Light-weight

  • Maintenance-friendly

  • Hygienic

Especially the latter is extremely important in a kitchen. Because the ceramic surface has such a dense structure, stains and food rests have no opportunity to penetrate into the material. The raw materials combine to create a durable work surface with a robust look and feel.

Ceramics kitchen worktops

A ceramic worktop is so hard that it is less resistant to a concentrated load. This means that when a sharp object is dropped from a height onto a corner, this could cause irreparable damage and the surface of the worktop could chip.

Ceramics kitchen worktops

A ceramic worktop is easy to maintain. We recommend that you clean it with a detergent and a damp cloth. Ceramic worktops are easy to clean with these, as dirt tends to stick just to the surface.
